Some first thoughts
I would not at this stage give too much away ... create a sense of anticipation and excitement as far as possible. I think you will need a decent working name - preferably without online to avoid confusion with the facebook page ...
Dunbar Locally might fit the bill but check it has not been usurped already
You probably need a short line that captures the sentiment of the proposition
What if we could buy more stuff locally ... online?
this is all important if you feel that a degree of separation from dunbar.org.uk might be a good idea.
Survey
You probably need something like:
- Business name and main website address
- Do you have an e-commerce website? Name if different.
- Online trading experience: I've thought about it but it hasn't happened so far ... I've tried it and it didn't work ... I am an veteran
- What is your business sector
- What categories of products/services do you sell, or give product examples
- How many products do you have for sale
- Would you be interested in getting support to start trading online either independently or as part of a family of Dunbar Local traders?
- Are you interested in being in a pilot a Dunbar Local initiative / becoming an advocate for Dunbar Local / Offering services and support
This might be sufficient ... we would want to do some follow up to make sure the initial candidates are ready, have the time and inclination, and their proposition is suitable / a good fit for the first iteration.
Who knows you may find yourself overwhelmed by offers (and therefore save a bit of money).
Doing a consumer survey is probably premature, and people always say they will shop local, then don't (I've seen too many that relied on flakey survey intentions to support there flakey business plan)
But in the meantime, I can setup a test development site and look at the market place tools, to keep things moving a little
Finally, long time ago I came across TotallyLocally.Org, a branding idea with free resources (at the time it was all free)
it is a thought starter ... rather than the answer
